Fire Service recovers bodies of 3 siblings from Meghna River

The bodies of three siblings have been recovered two days after they went missing when a trawler capsized in the Meghna River in the Sonargaon area of Narayanganj.

The bodies were recovered floating in the river from the Baidyerbazar area around 8am today (26 September) by Fire Service divers and the river police.

The victims were identified as Sajib and his siblings Samia and Samin, the children of Helal Uddin, who still remains missing.

Confirming the information, Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy director of the Narayanganj Fire Service, said, “The search operation is continuing to find the missing person.”

Earlier, on Thursday (24 September), 13 people, travelling with cattle and goats, left Srimaddi village of Cumilla for a wedding ceremony at Mayamayi village in Sonargaon on a trawler.

The trawler was heading towards Baidyerbazar when it was caught in a storm and capsized in the middle of the Meghna River.

Eight passengers managed to swim to safety. A woman named Rashida was later rescued and taken to hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.

Helal and his three children — Sajib, Samia and Samin — were reported missing after the accident.
