NCP leader’s fake medicine factory raided in Faridpur

RAB has conducted a second raid on a fake medicine factory allegedly owned by NCP leader Baizid Hossain Shahed in Faridpur, seizing a large quantity of counterfeit sexual stimulant medicines and baby jelly.

The raid was conducted around 10pm yesterday (24 September) at Janata Laboratories Ayurvedic on Road No 1 in the Goalchamot area of Faridpur municipality.

Assistant Commissioner of the District Commissioner’s Office Sakib Rahman Akash confirmed the matter, saying the factory was manufacturing counterfeit medicines without valid approval and that the products were extremely harmful to human health.

Shahed was detained on Tuesday (22 September) and sentenced to six months in jail and fined Tk10,000. RAB said the second raid was conducted based on information provided by Shahed.

During the raid, authorities seized counterfeit sexual stimulant medicines deemed harmful to public health and jelly allegedly harmful to children.

The factory authorities also failed to produce valid documents or certificates authorising the manufacture of medicines.

Following the raid, a mobile court sentenced factory manager Zillur Rahman to 20 days’ simple imprisonment. The seized liquid medicines were destroyed by dumping them into a local pond, while the remaining medicines and other materials were seized.
