Water resources minister says coordinated action will be taken to improve law and order and ensure public safety in Chattogram.

The administration, law enforcement agencies and elected representatives will work together to curb drugs and illegal arms and improve the law and order situation in Chattogram, Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee said today (23 September).
“More effective steps will be taken to recover illegal arms, control drugs and curb terrorism, considering public interest and needs,” he said while briefing journalists after a special law and order meeting at the Chattogram Circuit House.
Anee said Chattogram is an important commercial and economic hub and the government is giving special attention to maintaining law and order so that people can lead normal lives and move around the city safely.
He said the meeting discussed the presence of illegal arms, areas where drug activities were spreading and where immediate action was needed, with the participation of the administration and elected representatives.
Regarding the activities of the Awami League, the minister said the party is banned and has been holding flash processions in different areas in an attempt to create unrest.
“Such activities will not be allowed to create anarchy, instability or terrorism. These activities will be addressed politically, while legal action will also be taken,” he said.
The minister said criminals must be brought under the law regardless of where they are, and law enforcement agencies must play a more alert and responsible role.
He also said the government could not resolve problems that had accumulated over 17 years within 17 days or even 17 months, but remained committed to improving law and order and ensuring the safety of people in Chattogram.
On the city’s development, Anee said necessary projects would be taken forward in a coordinated manner under the direction of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, considering Chattogram’s importance.
“We want the people of Chattogram to live normally and move around safely. The people of Chattogram will benefit from this,” he said.
