The body of a missing Bangladeshi teenager with an intellectual disability was recovered from the zero line along the India-Bangladesh border in Akhaura upazila of Brahmanbaria last night (19 September).
The deceased was Md Shakil, 14, son of Malu Miah of Abdullahpur village in the upazila. He had gone missing two days ago.
Lt Col Jabbar Ahmed, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh 25 Battalion, said that as the body was inside Indian territory, it was taken to India for an autopsy following discussions between the BGB, India’s Border Security Force (BSF), and police from both countries.
The body will be handed over to the family once the autopsy is completed, he added.
Quoting family members, police and the BGB said Shakil had been missing since Friday (18 September).
Last night, his body was found in the Langkamura area on the Indian side of the border near the barbed-wire fence at the Abdullahpur border, they added.
Family members later went to the spot and identified the body.
It remains unclear how Shakil reached the zero line and how he died.
