Gulshan ADC transferred following OC and DC removals

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has transferred Gulshan division Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sarwar Hossain to the Detective Branch (DB), days after the division’s deputy commissioner (DC) and Gulshan police station officer-in-charge (OC) were removed following a procession by leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations.

DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed signed an office order today (19 September) transferring Sarwar to the Demra Zonal Team of the DB’s Wari division.

ADC Mohammad Aminul Haque Bappi of the DB’s Cyber and Special Crime Division (Financial Crime Investigation) has been transferred to Gulshan division in his place.

The same order also transferred ADC Farzana Nasrin of the Mirpur Zone under DMP’s Mirpur division to the Pallabi Zonal Team of the DB’s Mirpur division. ADC Md Zahidul Islam of DMP’s Intelligence Analysis Division has been transferred to the Mirpur Zone in her place.

The latest transfer follows a procession brought out by several hundred leaders and activists of the activities-banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations on Road 3 near KFC in Gulshan on 11 September.

Police moved to disperse the procession, prompting protesters to allegedly throw crude bombs at law enforcers. Police responded by firing two rounds of rubber bullets.

Following the incident, Gulshan police station OC Md Daud Hossain was removed from his post on 16 September and attached to DMP headquarters.

Later that day, Gulshan division DC M Tanvir Ahmed was also removed and attached to the headquarters.

The DMP has so far arrested 179 people in connection with the incident.
