President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir arrived in Sylhet today (15 September) on a daylong visit.
The aircraft carrying the president landed at Osmani International Airport at 11:27am.
He was welcomed at Sylhet airport by Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury , MPs, political leaders and senior government officials.
The President left Dhaka for Sylhet at around 10:30am and reached Sylhet Circuit House at about 11:50am.
After receiving a guard of honour at the Circuit House, Mirza Fakhrul is scheduled to visit the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) at 12:30pm.
He will then visit the shrine of Hazrat Shahparan (RA) at around 1:25pm.
The President will attend a civic reception organised by Sylhet City Corporation at the Nagar Bhaban.
After the programme, he will return to the Circuit House before leaving Sylhet for Dhaka by air at around 8pm.
The Sylhet Metropolitan Police has taken extensive security measures ahead of the presidential visit.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sarwar Murshed Shamim said around 1,000 police personnel have been deployed, with another 200 members assigned to additional duties.
