Brahmanbaria college holds fresher concert after ‘settlement’ with Qawmi students

Brahmanbaria Government College held its fresher reception concert at an alternative venue and drew a large crowd today (14 September) after authorities reportedly reached a settlement with the Qawmi Chhatra Oikya Parishad.

The concert was held at the college’s South Campus this afternoon, while the fresher reception, a discussion, and a tree-planting programme took place at the main campus earlier in the day.

The development came after the Qawmi Chhatra Oikya Parishad submitted a memorandum on Friday night (11 September) to Brahmanbaria-3 MP Khaled Hossain Mahbub and District Council Administrator Sirajul Islam, demanding that the fresher reception concert be cancelled.

The following evening, college authorities held a “settlement meeting” with leaders of the Qawmi Chhatra Oikya Parishad at lawmaker Khaled’s residence.

According to the decision reached at the meeting, the reception, discussion, and tree-planting programmes would be held at the main campus, while a cultural programme would be organised at the South Campus on the condition that there would be no “obscenity”.

The main campus programmes were held this afternoon, with Khaled attending as the chief guest. Sirajul, the BNP’s district unit Senior Vice-President Zahirul Haque and former district BNP president Hafizur Rahman Molla, among others, attended.

The programme was chaired by the college’s Principal AKM Obaidul Haque.

Band “Highway” performed at the event along with other local artists. A large number of students and locals gathered on campus and enjoyed the performances.
