Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has reportedly selected Selim Uddin as its candidate in the upcoming Dhaka North City Corporation mayoral election and Shadik Kayem for Dhaka South City Corporation.
The party’s Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar hinted at the development informally while talking to reporters after a programme in Dhaka today (14 September), reports Prothom Alo.
Porwar said Jamaat had already completed much of its organisational preparation for the upcoming local government elections and was nearing the end of its candidate selection process for union, upazila, district, and city corporation polls.
“In many places, candidates have already been announced internally,” he said.
Jamaat will contest the Dhaka North and South city elections and has already selected its candidates internally, Porwar said.
“However, they have not been formally announced. The candidates will be announced at the appropriate time,” he said.
He also added that the names of Selim for Dhaka North and Shadik for Dhaka South had already appeared in media reports as Jamaat’s candidates.
The Election Commission has not yet announced the dates for elections to Dhaka’s two city corporations. Political parties, however, have already begun selecting candidates ahead of the polls.
The National Citizen Party (NCP) yesterday (13 September) announced that Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain would contest for Dhaka North mayoral post and Nasiruddin Patwary for Dhaka South.
