The High Court has dismissed as not pressed a writ petition challenging the legality of the government notification banning all activities of the Awami League and its affiliated, associated and like-minded organisations.
The High Court bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan passed the order today (13 September).
Earlier, Md Al Amin, a resident of Munshiganj, filed the writ petition on 7 September. Advocate Yunus Ali represented the petitioner.
The petition sought a rule asking the authorities to explain why the notification issued on 12 May 2025 should not be declared to have been issued without lawful authority.
The petitioner also sought a stay on the operation of the 12 May notification while the rule, if issued, remained pending.
The Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs issued the notification on 12 May last year, banning all activities of the ousted Awami League and its affiliated, associated and like-minded organisations until the completion of trials of their leaders and activists in the International Crimes Tribunal.
According to the notification, these activities included publications, campaigns through the media, online platforms and social media, processions, meetings, rallies and conferences.
