A 9mm pistol believed to have been looted from Araihazar Police Station during the 2024 July Uprising was found abandoned on a shelf inside a mosque in Narayanganj’s Araihazar Upazila today (12 September).
Police recovered the pistol, two magazines and 20 rounds of ammunition from the second floor of Araihazar Bazar Mosque around 1pm.
Narayanganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Habibur Rahman confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
Nasir Uddin, the mosque’s muezzin, spotted the weapons on a shelf on the southern side of the second floor and later took them to Araihazar Police Station. He handed them over to Officer-in-Charge Md Sabzel Hossain.
According to police sources, the pistol was initially identified as a 9mm firearm used by the police and was among the weapons looted from Araihazar Police Station in 2024.
SP Habibur said, “Police are investigating how the pistol and ammunition reached the mosque and who was behind it.”
