The Television Academy has voted. Now it’s your turn.
The 78th Emmy Awards ceremony, recognizing the best television that ran between June 1, 2025, and May 31, 2026, will take place on Monday and be televised on NBC and Peacock. Why Monday, instead of the usual Sunday? Because NBC doesn’t want to pre-empt “Sunday Night Football,” a ratings monster. Mariska Hargitay, the star of “Law & Order: SVU,” will host.
The nominations list is a mix of seasoned favorites (“Hacks,” “Abbott Elementary”), dominant hits (“The Pitt”) and newcomers (“Widow’s Bay,” “Pluribus”). “Widow’s Bay,” an Apple TV horror comedy that came on strong near the end of the television year, already leads the pack after winning eight awards at the Emmys’ largely technical portion last weekend. (The academy dropped the “Creative Arts” title after moving several nontechnical categories to the earlier ceremony.) The darkly comic limited series “DTF St. Louis” won six, and the hit hospital drama “The Pitt” won four; both shows are on HBO Max.
