Police recovered an unidentified body from the Jirani Canal beneath the Trimohoni Bridge in Khilgaon on 9 September, and investigators arrested a key suspect within 32 hours.
The deceased was identified as Md Joj Miah, 44.
Analysing CCTV footage, call detail records (CDR) and other digital evidence, police arrested 33-year-old Md Abdullah from Ananda Nagar in Merul Badda around 6:15pm yesterday (10 September).

According to police, Judge Miah was repeatedly stabbed with sharp weapons inside a garage in Merul Badda before his body was dumped into the canal.
Harun-Or-Rashid, deputy commissioner (DC) of the Motijheel Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said preliminary information indicates the involvement of several others, and efforts are underway to arrest them.
Body recovered, victim identified
Locals spotted the body floating in the Jirani Canal beneath Trimohoni Bridge around 10am on 9 September, prompting police to recover it and send it for autopsy.
The victim was later identified through National Identity (NID) records.
After identifying Joj Miah, investigators traced his movements and found that he reached Mintu’s Garage in Merul Badda around 12:28am on 9 September after leaving his Khilgaon home.
According to police, Abdullah and several accomplices were waiting at the garage, where they stabbed Joj Miah before dumping his body in the Jirani Canal in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw.
“Though the issue of an extramarital affair has emerged as a primary lead, it cannot be considered the final conclusion before the investigation ends,” said DC Harun.
He said police are also examining whether other disputes, financial transactions or criminal activities were linked to the murder.
Police records show that Joj Miah had faced at least eight criminal cases, including drug-related charges, at various police stations across the capital.
The victim’s wife, Rozina, filed a murder case with Khilgaon Police Station yesterday under sections 302, 201 and 34 of the Penal Code.
