The family of soldier Tasnim Rifat, 28, who was killed in a tank-firing accident in Chattogram yesterday (9 September), is waiting for his body at their home in Rajshahi.
Since early morning, relatives and well-wishers have been gathering at the family’s residence in Bindarampur village under Damkura Union of Paba upazila to offer condolences.
According to family sources, his remains will be flown by an army helicopter from Dhaka to Rajshahi Cantonment before being taken to his village.
After the namaj-e-janaza at Bindarampur Jame Mosque, Rifat is expected to be buried in the adjoining cemetery beside his mother’s grave.
His father, retired government employee Asadul Islam, said his son visited their village home during the last Eid holiday and remained in regular contact with the family since then.
Rifat was the second of four siblings. He lived with his wife and daughter in a government residence at Chattogram Cantonment.
Rifat, a gunner of the Bangladesh Army’s Armoured Corps, was killed in an accidental explosion during tank firing at the Hathazari Field Firing Range in Chattogram around noon yesterday.
Army sources said a shell accidentally exploded inside the tank during the exercise, killing him on the spot.
He was serving with the 15 Independent Armoured Squadron at Chattogram Cantonment.
