Shipping minister, Indian envoy stress stronger Bangladesh-India ties

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam and Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi have stressed the need to further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between Bangladesh and India.

Trivedi paid a courtesy call on the minister at his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat today (8 September), according to a ministry press release.

During the meeting, Railways and Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam described Bangladesh and India as historically close neighbours and expressed hope that bilateral relations would move forward in a more positive and productive direction.

He said Bangladesh remains committed to strengthening existing ties so that people in both countries can benefit from greater cooperation.

The minister also stressed that future relations should be based on mutual respect and cooperation.

Trivedi said India was keen to advance relations with Bangladesh in a positive and constructive manner.

He also expressed hope that bilateral ties would be strengthened by giving priority to the welfare and interests of people in both countries.

The Indian high commissioner highlighted the two countries’ shared cultural heritage, historical connections and strong people-to-people links.

The two sides also discussed various issues of mutual interest and ways to expand cooperation in the future, according to the ministry.

Railways Secretary Md Fahimul Islam, Bridges Division Secretary Mohammad Abdur Rauf, Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Dr Mohammed Ziaul Haque, Shipping Ministry Secretary Zakaria and Indian Deputy High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pawan Badhe were among the officials present at the meeting.
