The entire Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, left the courtroom today (8 September) following a heated exchange with Supreme Court Bar Association President Mahbub Uddin Khokon.
The incident took place around noon in the Chief Justice’s courtroom during the hearing of a case, according to court sources.
At one point during the proceedings, Khokon, also the Noakhali-1 MP, reportedly remarked that lawyers’ earnings had declined since Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury became chief justice.
The chief justice responded with a question, leading to a back-and-forth exchange between the bench and the Supreme Court Bar president.
Following the exchange, the judges of the Appellate Division left the courtroom.
The Appellate Division did not resume its proceedings as of the time of filing this report.
