Inqilab Mancha leaders and activists staged a sit-in in front of Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus’s official residence, Jamuna, today (5 February), demanding an investigation under the United Nations into the murder of the platform’s spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
In a latest update posted on the platform’s official Facebook page, Inqilab Mancha said, “If no message or assurance comes from Dr Muhammad Yunus within the next one hour regarding the investigation into the murder of martyr Osman Hadi under United Nations, students and public are requested to peacefully gather in front of Jamuna.”
Earlier in the day, the protesters said they would continue their demonstration until they received a clear assurance from the chief adviser.
Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber said only a small group had initially gathered due to security concerns.
“We could have brought many more people if we wanted. We are waiting here with the wife of martyred Osman Hadi until the chief adviser gives us an assurance,” he said.
Hadi, who was an aspiring independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, was shot in the capital’s Paltan area on 12 December last year. He succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Singapore on 18 December.
