Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on everyone to play a responsible role from their respective positions to leave pollution-free rivers and a clean, liveable environment for future generations.
He made the call today (6 September) at a review meeting at the Secretariat on controlling pollution in rivers around Dhaka, removing waste and developing the circular waterways surrounding the capital.
The meeting reviewed activities related to controlling pollution in the Buriganga, Turag, Dhaleshwari, Balu and Shitalakkhya rivers, as well as adjacent canals and drains, removing waste, ensuring navigability and natural water flow, and improving the existing circular waterways around Dhaka.

He also stressed the need for proper coordination among the relevant ministries, divisions and agencies to move the activities forward.
The prime minister said efforts should be made to leave pollution-free rivers and a liveable environment not only for the present generation but also for future generations.
He said people should not wait only for government directives, but should also act out of a sense of personal responsibility.
Ministers, state ministers, the prime minister’s special assistant, the principal secretary to the prime minister, senior naval officials, secretaries of the relevant ministries and divisions, administrators of Dhaka, Narayanganj and Gazipur city corporations, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
