Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock have opened up about their bond.
The upcoming Practical Magic 2 stars Nicole and Sandra as they return as the iconic Owens sister.
While Practical Magic 2 is the sequel for the 1998’s Practical Magic, in a recent interview with People Magazine, the Hollywood pals described why it was the right time to revive the iconic story.
Speaking to the outlet Sandra said how the sequel takes a deeper look at family and women of past generations, saying, “For me, it sort of honored generations of ancestry and future generations in a way that I don’t think we’ve talked about much on film. Which is, we forget that our mothers and grandmothers were young women with dreams and hopes and desires as well. And we never looked at them as human beings like that. They were just Mom and Grandma.”
“So in this, we get to look behind the curtain and go, ‘I didn’t know you felt that way, I didn’t know you were longing.'”
While Nicole said, “I remember being on the phone and we were like, ‘Okay, what’s the story? Why should we make it?’ And we just started riffing. A lot of it was based on how every family carries something and how do you deal with it and remove the patterns that have been existing for so long from generation to generation? As sisters, we were both like, ‘Oh yeah, you now carry the family as people pass and move on.’ That was something that I so related to.”
It is pertinent to mention that the upcoming movie focuses on the Owen family’s generations, ancestral magic and a dark family curse which eventually brings the two sisters back and they work to end the curse.
Sandra further acknowledged the women’s sacrifices and influence, “Well, you’re carrying the family forward. And I think sage witches, sage women, aunts, mothers, grandmothers have never gotten the full credit that they deserved. I look up a lot and apologize. A lot.”
“Now I understand,” Nicole added to the conversation.
However when Nicole was questioned about which memory of them she would keep. The actress simply said, “Our quiet conversations.”
Sandra went on to say, “Yes. This time around, we got to share things… We’re each other’s life raft,” while Nicole added, “And then… [She motions zipping her lips.]”
