A court has shown former lawmaker Shahjahan Omar, Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin and Solaiman Selim arrested in cases filed with three separate police stations in Dhaka.
Today (31 August), Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sefatullah’s court showed Shahjahan Omar arrested in a case filed with Banani Police Station, while Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ariful Islam’s court showed him arrested in another case filed with Mirpur Model Police Station.
Meanwhile, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam’s court showed former lawmaker and Awami League Presidium Member Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin and former lawmaker Solaiman Selim arrested in the murder case of BNP activist Mokbul Hossain.
State counsel Shamsuddoha Sumon confirmed the matter.
According to the Mirpur Model Police Station case statement, the plaintiff, Md Mukter Hossain, took part in the anti-discrimination student movement in Mirpur from around 2pm to 5pm on 4 August 2024.
The case statement said police, Awami League and its affiliated organisations’ leaders and activists arrived at the spot to suppress the protesters and opened fire, injuring him. He was taken first to a medical camp run by students and later to a local hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Kurmitola General Hospital on doctors’ advice. A case was filed over the incident on 17 March 2025.
According to the Banani Police Station case statement, 19-year-old Sohag was shot during the quota reform movement in the Banani area on 19 July 2024 and later died while undergoing treatment. A case was filed over the incident on 12 September 2024.
A police report stated that initial investigation found evidence of Shahjahan Omar’s involvement in the incident.
Meanwhile, the case filed over the killing of BNP activist Mokbul Hossain alleges that BNP leaders and activists were gathering at Nayapaltan on 10 December 2022 as part of a one-point movement. Earlier, on 7 December, police conducted an operation at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan.
The case statement said Mokbul Hossain was shot and killed during the clash at the time. A case was filed with Paltan Model Police Station on 30 September 2024 by Mahfuzur Rahman, naming former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 255 others, along with 400-500 unnamed people as accused.
