The 16 spillway gates of Kaptai Dam have been opened by 3 feet each due to a sharp rise in the water level of Kaptai Lake.
Mahmud Hasan, manager-engineer of the Karnaphuli Hydropower Station, confirmed the information today (30 August) at 10am.
He said the 16 spillway gates are releasing 58,000 cubic feet per second, while five power units are releasing another 32,000 cubic feet per second into the Karnaphuli River.
A total of 90,000 cubic feet of water per second is being discharged into the Karnaphuli River.
