A Dhaka court today (30 August) has set 29 September as the date for submitting the investigation report in the case over the death of Bangladeshi actor Salman Shah after the investigating officer failed to submit it.
This is the ninth time the investigating officer (IO) has received an extension.
The IO, CID Inspector Ziaul Morshed, sought more time and Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jewel Rana then set 29 September as the new date for submission. Sub-Inspector Shah Alam of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Prosecution Department confirmed the development to The Business Standard.
The case was filed at Ramna Police Station at midnight on 20 October 2025, on behalf of Salman Shah’s mother, Neela Chowdhury. Her brother, Mohammad Alamgir, popularly known as Alamgir Kumkum, filed it as the complainant.
The 11 accused include Salman Shah’s former wife Samira Haque, her mother Latifa Haque Lucy, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, actor Don, David, Javed, Faruk, Ruby, A Sattar, Saju and Rezvi Ahmed alias Farhad.
Salman Shah’s real name was Chowdhury Mohammad Shahriar Emon. He was one of Bangladesh’s most prominent film actors and was 25 years old when he died on 6 September 1996.
According to the complaint, at around 9:30am on the day of his death, Neela Chowdhury, her husband Kamar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury and their younger son Shahran Chowdhury went to Salman’s residence in New Eskaton area in Dhaka before leaving for their ancestral home in Sylhet.
Samira and an employee named Abul allegedly told them that Salman was sleeping. Film producer Siddique was also there to meet him.
Salman’s parents then left with Siddiq after telling Samira they would see him on their way to Sylhet.
At around 11:30am, a production manager Selim called Salman’s father and said “something” appeared to have happened to the actor. His family immediately returned to the home in Eskaton where they allegedly found Salman Shah lying in his bed.
Two to three women unknown to them were allegedly massaging his hands and feet with oil. A woman named Ruby was also there, the case documents added.
Samira allegedly told Salman’s mother to leave the home.
After that, while taking Salman Shah to the Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital, his parents reportedly noticed rope marks around his neck.
They also noticed that his face and legs had turned bluish.
They then took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors reportedly told the family that Salman Shah had died some time earlier.
