Three friends were killed when an unidentified vehicle ran over their motorcycle while they were returning home after visiting the Bhanga Roundabout in Faridpur last night (29 August).
The accident occurred in the Naopara area of the Dhaka-Faridpur highway under Bhanga upazila. The deceased are motorcycle rider Chayon Molla, 23, of Nagarkanda upazila; his friend Noyon, 23, and Sojib Sheikh, 24, of the same area.
Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Bhanga Highway Police Station Md Helal Uddin said the motorcycle rider died on the spot after being run over by an unidentified vehicle.
He said the other two injured were taken to Dhaka for treatment but died there. Legal proceedings in connection with the incident are underway, he added.
According to police and local sources, the three friends travelled from Nagarkanda to the Bhanga Roundabout on a motorcycle yesterday evening. They were returning home after their visit when an unidentified vehicle ran over their motorcycle in Naopara and sped away.
Chayon died on the spot, while Noyon and Sojib sustained critical injuries.
Locals rescued the injured duo and took them to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex. As their condition was critical, they were referred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. They were later sent to Dhaka after their condition deteriorated and died there after midnight.
