Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir today (29 August) directed field-level police officers to act on tip-offs and take preventive measures to stop crimes before they occur.
“Police work for the country and the welfare of the people. We must all work together to serve them,” he said while addressing the closing session of the quarterly police conference at the Rajarbagh Police Lines auditorium.
The IGP also called on police to work closely with the public to curb crime and remain vigilant against misinformation and rumours.
The conference reviewed the country’s crime situation between April and June, including cases of robbery, dacoity, murder, rape, attacks on police and abduction.
Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) Khondoker Rafiqul Islam presented an overview of the crime situation during the period.
The conference also reviewed pending arrest warrants, the progress of investigations and trials, and conviction rates.
Police officers were instructed to expedite investigations into robbery and rape cases and strengthen supervision of cases involving attacks on police. They were also directed to reduce the backlog of cases and improve conviction rates.
Field-level officers were further instructed to prioritise investigations into general diaries filed over missing persons.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed inaugurated the conference earlier in the day as the chief guest, while Senior Home Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury attended as a special guest.
Meanwhile, IGP Ali Hossain Fakir presented IG Badges to 26 police personnel in recognition of their commendable performance during Police Week 2026.
