Police detained two youths from Bandar Bazar area in Bandar upazila late last night (28 August) after a video showing them roaming around Narayanganj City Park with guns went viral on social media.
Two toy guns were also recovered from the possession of Limon Toha, 22, and Yasin Molla, 23, both residents of the Bandar Bazar area.
The area where the video was filmed falls under the jurisdiction of Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station.
Tarek Al Mehedi, additional superintendent of police (crime and operations), said the two guns seen in the video are toys, adding that police recovered them both.
According to the officer, the two youths initially told police that they had made the video using toy guns to create a TikTok video.
Limon passed his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations in 2024 and did not continue his studies. He has been making TikTok videos for seven years.
Yasin passed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams in 2022 and did not continue his studies. He has been making TikTok videos for two years.
Legal action against them is being processed, Tarek said.
The 35-second video recently went viral on Facebook. In the video, the two youths, wearing black long kurtas and pyjamas and caps, are seen roaming around different parts of the park with guns.
They are seen pointing guns at various people, including pedestrians, rickshaw pullers, and children.
Police later found that the video was first posted on a TikTok account named “Bhaibon”. It was later posted on Limon’s Instagram and Facebook accounts.
