In post-apocalyptic movies, zombies are often depicted as an existential threat.
However, not in Ridley Scott’s upcoming movie The Dog Stars.
“The story follows Hig, a pilot living in the aftermath of a devastating pandemic that has wiped out most of the population.”
Specifically, the filmmaker doesn’t want any zombies involved, and he has a reason.
“God bless those who make zombie movies, but I avoided the zombies,” Scott told People. “I’m zombied out.”
Instead, The Dog Stars, the director said, asked an even more pertinent question: what would happen to people if society were wiped out.
Scott, in a separate interview, opened up about why he believed he is more than a filmmaker.
Citing his films — Aliens, Blade Runner, Thelma & Louise and Gladiator — which he said were ahead of the Hollywood curve, he said would make him an influencer.
“Every time, you are vulnerable, he said, adding, “Also, I never want to repeat myself, and all my films have been on the money.”
Given this, Scott said, “I’ve been ahead of the game frequently and, if you’re ahead of the game, you’re an influencer. So I’m not a filmmaker, I’m an influencer.”
The Dog Stars is in theatres on Aug 28.
