Men allegedly impersonate police to enter expatriate’s wife’s home, attempt rape

Two men allegedly posing as police officers entered an expatriate’s wife’s home in Barishal and attempted to rape.

The accused are Akash Howlader, 35, and Babul Khan, 40, along with three to four unidentified individuals.

Sushankar Mallik, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Agailjhara Police Station, confirmed the case today (26 August).

Mukta Begum, 49, of Uttar Chadtrishira village in Agailjhara, filed a case with the Barishal Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal yesterday (25 August).

According to the case statement, Mukta’s husband has been living in Saudi Arabia for nearly three years.

She lives with their eight-year-old daughter.

On 9 August, Akash allegedly knocked on Mukta’s door and claimed to be a police officer.

After Mukta opened the door, Akash and Babul allegedly forced their way inside, where Akash covered her mouth, sexually assaulted her and attempted to rape her while threatening to kill her.

The other accused allegedly stood guard at the door, but Mukta’s screams alerted neighbours, forcing the group to flee the scene.

Mukta later alleged that police delayed taking her complaint at Agailjhara Police Station.

The tribunal later directed the police station to investigate the allegations and take legal action.

“The matter is under investigation. Legal action will be taken after the investigation is completed,” Sushankar Mallik said.
