Police recovered the bodies of a retired teacher of Rangpur Zilla School, his wife and their two children from their apartment in Rangpur city, with investigators suspecting that the family had been killed several days earlier.
The bodies of Ganapati Chakraborty, 65, his wife Pritilata Chakraborty, 50, their son Ayush Chakraborty, 14, and daughter Agami Chakraborty, 28, were recovered from a third-floor apartment in the Masudpara area of Kamal Kachna in Rangpur city at around 8:30pm yesterday (22 August).
A team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the metropolitan police sealed off the building following the discovery.
Inspector Abu Hasan Kabir of Rangpur CID confirmed the incident, saying that a foul odor had spread throughout the building and that investigators suspect foul play.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Nazmul Kader of Kotwali Police Station said that the killings likely occurred two to three days ago.
Sumit Chowdhury, in-charge of Rangpur CID, inspected the crime scene and briefed reporters around 1am, saying initial observations suggested the family had been killed in a robbery three to four days earlier.
“The apartment’s electricity supply had been disconnected, valuables had been ransacked, and the victims appeared to have been strangled with ropes or towels,” he said.
