The Coast Guard has seized 24,200kg of banned polythene worth an estimated Tk3.63 crore from an under-construction building in the capital’s Armanitola area.
However, no one was arrested as the owner of the seized polythene could not be identified.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon confirmed the seizure.
He said that the Coast Guard’s Pagla station conducted the operation along the Buriganga riverbank from 1am to 7am today (22 August) and recovered the polythene from the building.
“No one was arrested as the owner of the seized polythene could not be identified,” he said adding that legal proceedings regarding the seized polythene are under way.
“Such drives would continue to protect the environment,” he concluded.
