Police recovered the body of an Awami League leader from a ditch in Kasba of Brahmanbaria yesterday (21 August), two days after he went missing from his home.
The deceased, Nayeb Ali, 60, was the former general secretary of Ward 8 Awami League of Gopinathpur union. He was the son of late Abdur Rahim of Dhajanagar village in the upazila.
Kasba Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ali Mohammad Rashed said injury marks were found on the body.
The exact cause of death will be known after an autopsy, he said, adding that legal proceedings are under way.
According to relatives, Nayeb left home around 9:30pm on Wednesday (19 August) and went to a banana orchard near his house. He could not be traced after that.
His torchlight, clothes, cigarette packet and gas lighter were later found near the banana orchard. Following the discovery of his belongings, relatives found his body in the ditch near the house.
