Grameenphone has deposited Tk24.60 crore into the Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation Fund today (18 August).
The amount represents 10% of the company’s Workers’ Profit Participation Fund (WPPF) for 2025, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
A Grameenphone delegation led by Chief Human Resources Officer Syeda Tahia Hossain handed over the cheque to Labour and Employment and Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury at the ministry in Dhaka.
The release said Grameenphone had deposited Tk329.89 crore into the fund up to 2024. With its latest contribution of Tk24.60 crore, the company’s total contribution has reached Tk354.49 crore.
Under the Bangladesh Labour Act, local and multinational companies contribute one-tenth of 5% of their annual profits to the workers’ welfare fund, according to the release.
At the cheque handover ceremony, Minister Ariful Haque praised Grameenphone’s regular contributions, describing them as an example of responsible corporate conduct and compliance with labour laws.
Syeda Tahia said responsible corporate citizenship was part of Grameenphone’s operations and that the company was committed to creating a safe and inclusive workplace while helping employees develop future-ready digital skills.
Labour and Employment Ministry Secretary Md Abdur Rahman Tarafdar and senior Grameenphone officials were also present at the event.
