The Excelerate Energy-operated floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) at Moheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar went offline again around 4pm today (14 August) following a technical fault.
Petrobangla officials said the terminal had not resumed supplying LNG to the national gas grid as of 9:40pm.
“The FSRU is expected to resume operations shortly, but I cannot say when gas supply will be restored,” Engr Md Shoyeb, director (Operations and Mines, additional charge) at Petrobangla, told The Business Standard.
Before the shutdown, it had been supplying around 250-300 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd).
On 21 July, a fire during an LNG transfer forced the FSRU out of service for more than two weeks.
The fire damaged the terminal’s boiler system and initially cut about 450mmcfd of gas supply to the national grid.
It resumed partial operations on 6 August before shutting down again today.
