The government plans to install three more floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) by 2029 to strengthen Bangladesh’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) import infrastructure and reduce the impact of disruptions at existing terminals, Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood said today (13 August).
He said the government has already placed an order for one FSRU and is looking for investors for three additional terminals.
“We have decided that by 2029 Bangladesh will have three more FSRUs,” he said, adding that the government is studying potential locations at Payra, Mongla, and Hiron Point in the country’s southern region.
The minister made the remarks while addressing a programme, titled “Navigating Bangladesh’s Energy Crisis: Immediate Priorities and the Path to a Sustainable Energy Future”, organised by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), at BRAC Centre Inn in Dhaka.
