Jon Hamm played an intense role in the upcoming thriller series.
American Hostage is a psychological thriller based on a true story of a 1977 hostage crisis.
In the trailer, the Mad Men star Jon Hamm can be seen playing the role of a radio reporter, Fred Heckman, who is caught in a high-pressure hostage crisis, as per the synopsis: “beloved Indianapolis radio reporter who is thrust into the middle of a life-or-death crisis when hostage-taker Tony Kiritsis (Giovanni Ribisi) demands to be interviewed on his popular radio news program.”
In the series, Kristoffer Polaha portrays the character of a businessman, Dick Hall, who is kept hostage for almost three days in downtown Indianapolis.
According to people magazine, Polaha Recalled the moment he first received the script, described what drew his attention towards the series, “Adam Arkin is someone who I have worked with before and whose work has always stood out to me, so when I saw that he was attached as an EP and the director of the first four episodes, I was excited to throw my hat in the ring.”
Adding, “Then I read the first script, and I was locked. The writing from episodes 1 through 8 is pitch-perfect.”
Reflecting on his meticulous research, which he did for a better understanding of the character dick hall, “I read that book cover to cover several times, watched every interview I could find and listened to the actual 911 calls and watched the archived news footage,” he said.
“There was plenty of source material to give me a great idea of who Dick Hall was and how to honor his story,” he further added.
Furthermore, Polaha praised his co-actor, Jon Hamm, as he said, “I’ve known Jon, in a professional capacity, since season 1 of Mad Men, and to watch him produce and lead this cast was a masterclass at the highest level of storytelling.”
“I also think fans of Jon Hamm are going to see him play a character they’ve never seen him play before. He’s brilliant in this project,” the American Hostage actor further added.
It is pertinent to mention that the upcoming thriller series consists of eight episodes, of which two are set to release on September 20, 2026.
