At least 16 people were killed in two separate bus accidents in Sylhet and Bogura today (7 August).
In Sylhet, at least 9 people were killed and more than 30 others injured after two passenger buses collided head-on in the Dayamir area of Osmaninagar at around 7:30am.
Osmaninagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Morshedul Alam Bhuiyan said a Bengal Paribahan bus and a Unique Paribahan bus collided head-on in the area.
The bodies were recovered and sent to the morgue of Osmani Medical College Hospital, the OC said.
Meanwhile, in Bogura, 7 people were killed after a passenger bus lost control and crashed into an electric pole in the Erulia area on the Bogura–Naogaon regional highway at around 5am.
According to locals, a Shah Fateh Ali Paribahan bus travelling from Dhaka to Naogaon veered off the road near Erulia Bazar before crashing into a roadside electric pole.
Three victims, all workers, died at the scene. 4 were pronounced dead after taking to the hospital.
Bogura Sadar Police Station Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Shafiqul Islam Shafik said legal procedures are underway.
The injured were taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura for treatment. The identities of the deceased in both accidents could not be confirmed immediately.
