At least eight people were killed and several others injured in a head-on collision between two passenger buses on the Sylhet–Dhaka highway in Sylhet’s Osmaninagar upazila this morning (7 August).
The accident occurred at around 7:30am in the Dayamir area. All eight victims died at the scene. Their identities could not be confirmed immediately.
Osmaninagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Morshedul Alam Bhuiyan said a Bengal bus and a Unique bus collided head-on in Dayamir.
The impact caused the Unique bus to plunge into a roadside ditch, he said.
The OC said all eight deceased were passengers of the Unique bus. Their bodies have been recovered and sent to the morgue of Osmani Medical College Hospital.
He added that several passengers from both buses were injured in the crash and have been taken to hospitals for treatment.
“I also came to the hospital with several of the injured,” the OC said.
