Former joint secretary Syed Jaglul Pasha has been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police over allegations of fabricating documents and giving false testimony in the Zia Orphanage Trust case filed against former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
DB Chief and Additional Commissioner Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman confirmed the arrest today (5 August).
He said Pasha was detained at around 8:45pm yesterday (4 August) at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after returning to Dhaka from Cox’s Bazar.
Speaking to The Business Standard, Shafiqur Rahman said Pasha is an accused in multiple cases, including allegations of fabricating documents and giving false testimony in the Zia Orphanage Trust case.
He is also accused in cases over the killing of students during the July Uprising, including the murder of student Parvez filed with Jatrabari Police Station.
According to police, Pasha is further named in a case related to the “Eagle Hunt” operation at Shibganj Police Station in Chapainawabganj, the murder case of BNP leader Altaf Hossain filed with Daulatpur Police Station in Kushtia, and a 2006 case over allegedly obstructing the BNP central office in Banani by placing a sand-laden truck in front of the premises.
Police said legal proceedings against him are underway.
