Cambridge University Press (CUP), the Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN), and the University Grants Commission (UGC) will collaborate to connect Bangladesh’s higher education and research sector more closely with the global knowledge ecosystem.
The partnership was announced at the day-long “BdREN–CUP Partnership: Pathway towards Global Knowledge” conference held in Dhaka on 2 August, bringing together vice-chancellors, librarians, research administrators, and policymakers from public and private universities.
UGC Chairman and BdREN Trust Chairman Prof Mamun Ahmed said the collaboration would help transform Bangladesh’s higher education into a more digital, research-driven, and internationally competitive system by expanding access to world-class academic resources and global expertise.
BdREN Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Tawrit said the initiative would strengthen Bangladeshi universities’ links with international research resources and create new opportunities for global research collaboration.
Sarwat Reza, country head of Cambridge Press & Assessment Bangladesh Limited, said wider access to world-class research and educational resources is essential for building a knowledge- and innovation-driven economy, enabling students, researchers, and institutions to better tackle future challenges.
In his opening remarks, Debottom Bhattacharya, national head of Cambridge University Press, said equitable access to trusted research and knowledge resources is key to advancing higher education, adding that Cambridge is pleased to partner with the UGC and BdREN to help make Bangladesh’s higher education sector more research-focused.
The conference also unveiled BdREN’s plan to expand access to e-resources and reviewed the future roadmap of the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) project, alongside initiatives to broaden digital academic resources across UGC-affiliated universities
Six thematic sessions explored the research journey from discovery to international publication, open-access publishing, the vision for digital university libraries by 2030, access to quality higher education textbooks, raising the global visibility of Bangladeshi research, and expanding international research collaboration.
