Police arrested 17 suspected activists of Awami League and its affiliated organisations after they brought out a procession in Dhaka’s Mirpur-12 early today (31 July).
Among those arrested, six are minors, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Niaz Mehedi.
The arrests were made at around 6:30am by Pallabi Police Station personnel while the group was marching on the eastern side of metro rail pillar 140 in the Mirpur-12 area.
According to the DMP official, leaders and activists of Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League and their affiliated bodies organised the procession with the intention of conspiring against the government and spreading propaganda.
Police also seized a banner, a rented microbus and two smartphones from the spot.
Legal proceedings against the detainees are underway, the DMP official added.
