Police recovered the body of a woman from her residence in Dhaka’s Uttara on Thursday (30 July), suspecting that unidentified miscreants strangled her after cutting through a window grille to enter the house during a burglary.
The incident occurred around 3pm on the second floor of a house in the Jamtala Lane area of Faydabad.
Confirming the incident, KHM Ershad, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Dakshinkhan Zone, said the victim, identified as Sara Rokhsana Pinu, was alone at home when the incident occurred.
“Her body was found lying on a bed with a pillow placed over her face. Although there were no visible injury marks, we suspect she was suffocated to death. The body has been sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death,” the officer added.
According to police, the victim’s husband works for a real estate company, while their two sons study at a madrasah and their daughter attends school.
The incident came to light when the couple’s daughter returned home from school in the afternoon and found her mother lying motionless on the bed. She alerted neighbours, who then informed the police.
Police said the window grille of the house had been cut, indicating the intruders may have entered through that route. The victim’s husband also alleged that cash and gold ornaments were missing from the house.
Police are investigating the incident and working to identify those involved.
