Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam Swapan has urged Grameenphone to address persistent consumer concerns over call drops, network quality, and the pricing of voice and data packages.
He made the remarks today (30 July) while inaugurating Grameenphone’s “Digital Inclusion for Marginalized Communities Phase II” initiative at the Sheraton Dhaka in Banani.
The minister said the benefits of digital transformation must reach all citizens, particularly women, youth, people with disabilities, transgender communities and other marginalised groups.
He called on mobile network operators to expand services to remote and underserved areas, stressing that affordable and reliable connectivity is essential for inclusive development.
“While business growth is important, equal importance must also be given to customers’ expectations and interests,” he said, urging operators to prioritise affordable, reliable and high-quality voice and data services.
Highlighting the country’s economic ambitions, Anam said Bangladesh aims to become a $1 trillion economy by 2034, adding that meaningful digital inclusion, improved digital literacy and the development of a skilled workforce would be critical to achieving that goal.
The event was attended by Grameenphone Chief Executive Officer Yasir Azman, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Maj Gen (retd) Md Emdad Ul Bari, senior government officials, private-sector representatives and development partners.
