Paristhan bus lost control and crashed into the compound of Kurmitola General Hospital.
A pedestrian was killed and another injured after a passenger bus lost control and crashed into the compound of Kurmitola General Hospital in the capital this evening (26 July), police said.
The accident occurred at around 7:15pm when a Mirpur-bound Paristan Paribahan bus reportedly suffered brake failure after descending from a flyover, according to police.
The bus crashed into a gas control room beside the hospital’s main gate before hitting pedestrians standing nearby.
Confirming the incident to The Business Standard, Sub-Inspector Mashiyur of Cantonment Police Station said the driver repeatedly sounded the horn in an attempt to alert people.
“Most people managed to move away, but one pedestrian, who was reportedly using a mobile phone, was unable to get out of the way and was run over. The bus appears to have suffered brake failure,” he said.
Police said one pedestrian died at the scene, while another sustained injuries. Their identities could not be confirmed immediately.
The bus has been seized, and an investigation into the incident is underway.
