A lawyer was stabbed to death by unidentified assailants in Bagerhat today (25 July).
The deceased was identified as Advocate Nizam Uddin Shanto, 42, a member of the Bagerhat District Bar Association.
The incident took place around 1am in the Harikhali Tetultala area of the town. Bagerhat Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shamsul Arefin confirmed.
Quoting locals, police said Nizam was returning home from Bagerhat town on a motorcycle around 1am. When he reached the Harikhali Tetultala area, unidentified assailants stabbed him, leaving him critically injured. He died at the scene.
Police recovered the body later that night after receiving calls through the national emergency service 999 and from local residents.
OC Shamsul said the body has been sent to the morgue of Bagerhat District 250-bed Hospital for an autopsy.
He added that law enforcement agencies are working to identify and arrest those involved in the incident.
