Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, was accorded a warm floral reception after assuming the responsibilities of the President this afternoon (24 July).
Among those who greeted the Acting President with floral bouquets were JS Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal, Chief Whip Md. Nurul Islam, Attorney General Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal and Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat Secretary Barrister Md Golam Sorwar Bhuiyan, said a press release of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat.
Earlier in the day, President Mohammed Sahabuddin submitted his resignation letter to the Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad in accordance with Article 50(3) of the Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the release said.
Following the resignation, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, assumed the responsibilities of the President under Article 54 of the Constitution, becoming the Acting President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh until further constitutional arrangements are made.
