President Mohammed Shahabuddin may resign today (24 July) or tomorrow citing health reasons, according to media reports that quoted family sources.
Reuters yesterday also reported that the president has decided to step down and has informed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman of the matter, citing two sources familiar with the development.
According to a third Reuters source, the president informed the prime minister of his decision on Tuesday (21 July) and may make a formal announcement today.
Prothom Alo, quoting a source familiar with the matter, reported that Shahabuddin told senior Bangabhaban officials at a meeting yesterday to prepare for his departure.
