Seven teachers of Cumilla Government Women’s College who were involved in managing 2026 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations at a waterlogged examination centre have been transferred to government colleges in Cox’s Bazar, Sylhet, Barguna and other districts.
The Ministry of Education first attached them to the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) as officers on special duty before posting them to different government colleges, said a notification signed by Deputy Secretary Md A Kuddus yesterday (23 July).
Under the order, the seven teachers have been asked to be released from their current workplace by 29 July.
The transferred teachers are Vice Principal AKM Zahirul Alam, Professor of Mathematics Md Abdul Malek, Associate Professor of Botany Kanak Barua, Associate Professor of Islamic History and Culture Muhammad Ullah Majumder, Assistant Professor of Political Science Nur Mohammad Nur Ullah, Lecturer of Accounting Md Al Amin, and Associate Professor of English Mohammad Mohsin.
Among them, Zahirul Alam was not involved in examination management as his son is taking the HSC exams. Abdul Malek, the junior-most professor, was appointed acting officer after senior teachers declined the responsibility.
Kanak Barua served as convenor of the examination committee, while Mohammad Mohsin is secretary of the college teachers’ council.
Earlier, Cumilla-6 MP Monirul Haque Chowdhury on 18 July visited the college, expressed dissatisfaction over the waterlogging and the management of the examinations, and held a meeting with teachers.
He said the situation had harmed the image of the government and the education minister.
The teachers, however, said the college has served as an HSC examination centre since its establishment.
Although heavy rain caused waterlogging, no examinees were absent and the examinations were held on schedule, they added.
A Ministry of Education official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said transfers are a routine administrative matter and that the ministry may transfer any official.
On 13 July, heavy rain caused waterlogging at the college. Cumilla City Corporation Administrator Md Yusuf Molla Tipu arranged dinghies and vans, while volunteers from Bibek helped transport examinees to the centre. College teachers also assisted the students.
