The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a listed mugger accused in 29 cases during a raid in the capital’s Karwan Bazar area.
A team of RAB-2 arrested Md Mintu Sheikh alias Mintu Mia, 48, yesterday (22 July) afternoon.
RAB-2 Deputy Director (Media) Major M Mubin Rahman Tapas confirmed the arrest today (23 July).
He said RAB-2 had received information that Mintu, described as a top criminal in the Tejgaon area, was staying in Karwan Bazar.
According to RAB, Mintu is accused in 29 cases, including several filed under the Arms Act, and is listed by law enforcement agencies as a mugger and a top drug dealer. Acting on the information, a RAB-2 team conducted a special operation and arrested him.
Mubin said “Mintu had long been involved in mugging, theft, drug dealing and other criminal activities in Karwan Bazar and elsewhere in the capital, allegedly intimidating people by brandishing weapons.”
At Tejgaon Police Station, he faces four cases involving robbery, grievous hurt, intimidation and attempted murder, 11 cases under the Narcotics Control Act and one under the Arms Act.
At Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station, he faces one case involving obstruction of government work and attempted murder, five cases under the Narcotics Control Act and one under the Arms Act.
He also faces three cases at Gacha Police Station under the Gazipur Metropolitan Police, one at Dhaka Railway Police Station, one at Chattogram Railway Police Station and one before the Judicial Magistrate Court in Jamalpur.
