Dhaka University (DU) has been named Bangladesh’s leading research institution in the latest Nature Index published by the renowned UK-based scientific journal “Nature”.
According to the latest index, Bangladeshi scientists and researchers published a total of 143 research papers.
Among these papers, DU contributed the highest share with 21 published research articles, as announced in a press release issued today (22 July) by the Dhaka University Public Relations Office.
The Nature Index compiled its latest rankings by analysing research papers published between March 2025 and February 2026 across 178 leading international scientific journals worldwide.
According to the latest data, Bangladesh ranks 54th out of 194 countries globally in research output. This represents a rise of seven places from the previous year, when Bangladesh held 61st position.
Meanwhile, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor ABM Obaidul Islam congratulated the university’s teachers, researchers, students and staff on the achievement.
“Dhaka University’s position as the country’s top research institution in the Nature Index is a matter of immense pride for us,” he said.
He added this achievement demonstrated that Dhaka University continues to lead the nation in international-standard research and scholarship.
He further said, “Research serves as the primary engine for development and innovation. There is no substitute for research when it comes to tackling contemporary global challenges, including artificial intelligence, climate change, public health, technological transformation, and sustainable development.”
Dhaka University remains committed to making even more effective contributions to national development and global progress through research, innovation, and knowledge creation, the vice-chancellor added.
