BNP activist hacked to death in Dhaka’s Sabujbagh

A local BNP activist was hacked to death in the capital’s Sabujbagh last night (21 July) in an attack believed to have been triggered by prior enmity.

The victim, Ibrahim Palash, 36, was attacked with sharp weapons around 8:30pm in front of a grocery shop near the water pump at Rajarbagh Bazar.

He was first taken to Mugda Medical College Hospital before being transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 9:30pm.

Confirming the incident, Sabujbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam told The Business Standard that preliminary findings suggest Palash was attacked after an altercation during a local arbitration.

“We have identified several people involved in the incident. Efforts are underway to arrest them, and we are investigating the exact motive behind the killing,” the OC added.

Md Hira, who took Palash to hospital, said the victim had been sitting at a tea stall when a group of 10 to 12 people armed with sharp weapons attacked him.

According to Hira, the attackers, including locals identified as Royal, Sabuj and Naim, assaulted Palash over previous enmity before fleeing the scene.

He alleged that Palash’s wrist was severed during the attack and that he also sustained two deep wounds to the chest.

Palash hailed from Sonapur village in Raipur upazila of Lakshmipur. He lived in the Madertek area of the capital, worked as a car driver and was also an activist of the local ward BNP.
