The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a madrasah teacher in a case filed over the rape of a child in Chattogram.
Md Rafiqul Islam was arrested by RAB-7 yesterday (20 July) at around 5:30pm following a raid in the Bahir Signal area of the city’s Chandgaon neighbourhood.
In a press release issued today (21 July), RAB-7 said Rafiqul has been turned over to Chandgaon police for further legal proceedings.
Rafiqul, originally from Lama upazila of Bandarban, worked as an instructor at a local Hefzkhana.
According to RAB, the 13-year-old victim was a student at the institution.
It is alleged that Rafiqul repeatedly subjected the child to sexual abuse under threat of harm, beginning in January this year.
The most recent incident reportedly occurred on the night of 9 July.
The abuse came to light after the child confided in family members. The victim’s mother subsequently lodged a case at Chandgaon Police Station on 18 July.
