Algerian Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdelouahab Saïdani today (18 July) distributed relief supplies among flood-affected families in Chattogram’s Satkania and Cox’s Bazar’s Matarbari.
The relief distribution programme in Satkania was held at Keochia Muzaherul Haque Islamia Dakhil Madrasa in Keochia Union around 11:30am, where the ambassador handed over bags containing essential items to affected residents, according to a press release.
Later, he travelled to Matarbari in Cox’s Bazar and distributed relief supplies among families affected by the recent flooding.
Speaking during the programmes, Ambassador Saïdani expressed sympathy for the affected families and stressed the importance of supporting vulnerable communities during natural disasters and humanitarian crises.
Ambassador Saïdani is regarded as one of the first foreign ambassadors to personally visit the flood-affected areas and distribute relief supplies directly among affected families, the release said.
His presence on the ground reflected a strong commitment to humanitarian assistance and solidarity with communities facing the consequences of the flooding, it added.

According to local representatives, this was also the first time a foreign diplomat had visited Satkania to distribute humanitarian assistance among flood-affected people.
The release further stated that the visit was regarded as an important and encouraging gesture for the local community.
His visit to both areas demonstrated his commitment to reaching vulnerable communities and providing immediate humanitarian assistance to those in need, it added.
Flood-hit locals expressed their appreciation for the Algerian ambassador’s humanitarian initiative.
They said the relief supplies would help them meet their immediate needs and cope with the difficulties caused by the flooding.
The initiative reflected the longstanding friendship between Algeria and Bangladesh and demonstrated Algeria’s humanitarian concern for communities affected by natural disasters in Bangladesh, the release mentioned.
The programmes concluded with a message of compassion, solidarity and continued support for flood-hit people in Satkania and Matarbari.
